Family support

Together 21 is not only about supporting the child, but also the parents and family of each of our members, providing  strong peer support by becoming part of the Together 21 family network. Parents and/or carers and their families, meet others on a similar journey in a warm and friendly environment, learning together, gaining support and understanding from others with shared experience. Parent time allows parents some downtime to reset and relax with additional training sessions in Makaton happening throughout the year.

We have a closed group forum where parents can ask questions, parents run their own chat forums and we provide one-to-one support and advice when needed. There is a saying that “It takes a village to raise a child” and here at Together 21 we have a very active village indeed."

What does group mean to me?

Jo and Robbie – Friday Early Years Group

"Myself and Robbie have been attending Together 21 just over a year now and the support we have received has made a massive difference for both of us. Robbie loves one-to-one sessions, the Makaton sing and sign and the hydrotherapy pool. I myself feel the support of the mums and staff at Together 21 has made this journey much easier. There is always someone there that understands a difficult week, a new challenge or there to celebrate every small achievement with you... this group is amazing! I think I would have massively struggled as a mum to Robbie without Togther 21, often other baby or toddler groups don’t cater for the physical delays and you end up in classes that are too young for your child or other groups of children are progressing much quicker and this can sometimes make you leave feeling anxious about the future.

Sarah and William - Saturday Primary Group

"It means that there is a support network for myself and my son who has Down syndrome. A safe place that understands and supports the development of children like William. An opportunity to seek advice in a safe environment.

As far as I am aware this is the only place of its kind to support a huge geography."

Julie and Jessica – Life Skills Group

"The group is a safe and supportive environment where the young people can socialize and develop independence and Life Skills. Personally, I ‘ve found a wealth of information and support from the other parent and carers and staff there. My daughter loves going and it gives her a lot of opportunities. It’s just a lovely friendly group who we couldn’t be without."
